Dynamic Systems Shop Tour

Dynamic Systems Inc. (DSI) is a leading full-service mechanical and process construction firm headquartered in Austin, Texas. Their services cater to various markets, including Commercial, Healthcare, Education, Hospitality, Laboratory, Life Sciences, Microelectronics, and Mission Critical. During the recently concluded 2023 MEP Innovate Conference, DSI opened its doors to showcase their facility.

As a company dedicated to innovation, DSI recognized the need to streamline their design process to avoid project issues and mistakes and maximize their Revit model. They identified their paper process as the root cause of these issues. Additionally, with the rise of design build projects many project superintendents waiting on the VDC department to create spools, it created a disconnect between the teams onsite.

To address these challenges, DSI tasked Doug Smith, the Director of VDC Technology, with the responsibility to identify and implement an innovative solution that would drive digital workflows, provide more accurate design data, and help put the superintendents back in charge of planning and owning their jobs. He presented GTP Software's STRATUS as the solution. He emphasized the importance of efficient processes to profitability and shared an example of an average driver can usually change a tire in 15–20 minutes with hand tools, but a fully equipped NASCAR pit crew can change all four tires on their driver's car in less than 20 seconds. Now with the buy-in from management to implement STRATUS, Doug knew he still had to wait for the right moment to roll out the change.

The pandemic provided an opportunity for Smith and his team to map out every step of their current process and integrate STRATUS. As a result, they took nine shops completely digital, equipped with digital workstations, and replaced all paper in their shop. STRATUS helped them reduce the processing time of packages from the field from 15 minutes to only 5 minutes. With over 3000 packages or orders going through their shop, they saved 30,000 minutes. Moreover, their superintendents now have control over the ordering, prefab, and delivery of materials to the job site, resulting in more efficient planning and ownership of their jobs.

During the shop tour, DSI showcased their process, providing videos from different stations. These videos illustrate DSI's innovative solution to drive digital workflows through STRATUS and is a testament to their commitment to efficiency, accuracy, and profitability.
